The Haunted History of the Mulberry Inn: One of Utah’s Most Haunted Hotels

Tucked away in the heart of historic St. George, the Mulberry Inn is more than just a charming bed-and-breakfast—it's a place where history and hauntings intertwine. Listed as one of the seven most haunted hotels in Utah, this Victorian-era home has seen everything from polygamist hideouts to nursing home residents, and even a funeral held in the parlor for a young woman who tragically passed at just 24 years old. With hidden passageways, flickering lights, eerie whispers, and ghostly figures, the spirits of the past seem to have never left.

A House of Secrets: Polygamist Hideout & Hidden Passages

Originally built in the 1870s, the Mulberry Inn was once a sanctuary for polygamists during a time when federal marshals actively pursued those practicing plural marriage. To evade capture, men would disappear into the attic through hidden passageways, waiting for an "all-clear" signal. These secret hideaways remained untouched for decades, only being discovered in 1979. But did those hiding here ever truly leave?

The Tragic Funeral & Lingering Spirits

The most chilling piece of history tied to the Mulberry Inn is the funeral once held in the parlor for a 24-year-old woman. It’s said that her grief-stricken family gathered around her casket, and her untimely passing left a shadow over the home. Some guests have described feeling a wave of sadness upon entering the parlor, while others report seeing a woman in a long dress sitting silently in one of the chairs, vanishing when approached.

The Becky Room: The Crying Doll & Flickering Lights

If there’s one room in the Mulberry Inn that gives guests goosebumps, it’s The Becky Room. Not only does the light constantly flicker, but guests frequently wake up to find that they have covered a doll with pillows in their sleep, without remembering doing so. This antique doll has been described as having an unsettling presence, with guests feeling as though it’s watching them. Some have even reported hearing soft crying at night, though no one else was in the room.

So, the question remains—would you dare spend the night?
